Evil Underground Ninja Rogue Penguins!?!?!

So… This doesn’t have anything to really do with documentation

but! Today, I tested google docs for like 10 seconds. It’s pretty cool from what I saw. Um… It’s pretty basic for what it is, word processor, presentations, spread sheets. It has features that are

needed for most all tasks… “Needed” not wanted/luxuries lol.

Hm… Some cool interesting stuff (I only really looked at word for 10 seconds, not much else…), the formula editor is a mix of

OpenOffice formula editor, and Microsoft Equation Editor (from 2007).

I don’t think many people actually get what I’m trying to say with that lol… Guess I need to put an example. For word to do like tan(theta) =sin(theta)/cos(theta) you’d type:

tan(\theta)=sin(\theta)/cos(\theta)

And as you type it’ll magically make it look cool in the equation editor (2007 only, in older versions you have to do the crappy equation editor with clicking buttons and clicking places to type and all that other stuff that makes tan=sin/cos take like 923412341234 hours to type…  In Open Office, in the formula editor you’d type:

tan(%theta) = sin(%theta) over cos(%theta)

Which is also easy and pretty cool, and turns out looking nice.  (It’s not as easy for some people because Microsoft equation editor still has the options of doing it the old fashion way with button clicking and clicking more and some more and yeah…  It’s a pain after a while clicking so much x.x, typing is way faster).  In google docs for inserting a formula, you’d type:

tan(\theta) = sin(\theta) \over cos(\theta)

There are some other major differences that make it more like the Microsoft editor over the Open Office other than just \ over %, like for vectors (the little line arrow thing over a letter and such) in OOo (OpenOffice.org) it’s vec {E}, while in Mee (Microsoft equation editor [sorry I’m getting lazy for typing it all out x.x]) it’s E \vec, and in google it’s \vec E (which is more like OOo, but then it’s like Mee but backwords).  To do subscripts (it’s like saying array index, or if doing math/science stuff it’s like I1 I2, etc) in OOo it’s like…  I sub 1.  In Mee it’s I_1, and in google it’s also I_1.  I guess that not many people actually care about equation editors and such, but when you have to type out a lot of math formula, derivatives, and like writing up lab reports, it’s really nice to have formulas actually be easy to read, and also to be able to do them quickly.  Oh, some other side notes, google docs will have your document saved on the server, if you download it to your computer though, all the special stuff (like the equations) will be turned into images computer side.  This means you’ll only be able to edit those equations on the google version.

Google docs faults (in my opinion):

  • Deleting documents is way too easy.  With a sensitive touch pad you might accidently hit delete when trying to mouse over to something else.  This would be ok, if google asked “Are you sure!?”  Then again… there is a trash can x.x (just noticed lol).
  • Second: (if the image doesn’t show sorry =x )
googledocsThere is no ‘Stay on this Page’ or ‘Leave this page’ button…  I know it’s not a big issue, but just like the text doesn’t match up x.x, and then to make it worse, the description for Ok doesn’t match ‘Leave this Page’ it’s ‘continue’, it’s not a big thing, I just am OCD I guess…  (Apparently on windows these buttons actually say the right thing.  It might be a mac/just safari thing…)
  • Going back to the Leaving this page thing, when you try to close without saving it’ll alert you, but!  If you hit refresh, you can lose everything you typed with no warning, I know for some people this isn’t really an issue, but for people with horrible habits of just hitting refresh whenever you feel that the internet is too slow (I don’t know why…  but I do…) this can be an issue.  Also when you’re in a browser and have different buttons by your refresh button, you might accidently click refresh instead of “Open a new tab” or something.  Browsers need a defense against refresh…  Most have a “Oh wait you were typing something in the box before you hit close!” but none have “Oh wait you were writing your 12039482109348021934123 page term paper before you hit refresh!”  As you can see this could be very destructive towards your future, and if you’re anything like a sane person that feels anger, this could shorten your computer lifespan by years!  (ok… technically if we go by when it’s obsolete and such only like… 2.5 years if you had something really nice, otherwise you bought something already out dated)

Microsoft seems to be trying to introduce a lot of features like google, but seems a little stingy about it lol.  Microsoft has an workspace live or something like that which is suppose to be a way to store notes, and share documents online (which google also provides), but microsoft requires you to already to have Office on your desktop, unless you only do notes, but notes cannot be saved to your computer, only on the workspace.  Also, the workspace one doesn’t provide you with any real features of office software (currently to my knowledge), and is only really just a workspace for collaborating (which honestly is it’s purpose, it’s not meant to be used to edit documents really so I guess this is an unfair complaint).  There’s apparently an open office online thing but I can’t seem to register for it so I don’t have any notes on it, it looks like they’re virtualizing just a linux desktop with open office on it though, it could be that they’re actually using java and having it straight through the browser (which I think would work, cause we’ve made notepad in a browser for fun, it would just be more complex and all), some people commented on some stuff I read that it outdoes google docs (which, I honestly don’t really see how, cause google docs hits all the basic stuff for documents and well maybe cause Open Office isn’t just word, presentations, and spread sheets, but I guess I’d have to check it out, I’m looking at it from just a get papers done stand point, also if it really is open office there’s plug ins and macros and all that other stuff I don’t really care to use x.x;;[no offense to those that do use those things, they can make life way easier and do a lot of cool stuff, I just never found the time to actually look into it]).  But I do have to say, google docs is worth checking out, if it works for you needs, that’s computer space saved up, a ton of money saved (unless you get open office then the money saved is equal [ok you can get really really technical on this but we’ll leave that alone for now x.x;;]), and you can save it in all your favorite formats!  So it’s really versatile, and like, you won’t have to worry about your computer crashing (cause it all will be on the google servers (and!  they back there stuff up[i think…]!)), the only downside is if you’re internet is down and all that other mumbo jumbo x.x (and if terrorist decided to take out google servers which I highly doubt they would, but it would screw over people everywhere (guess we’d all have to go to bing x.x… down with yahoo! [jk jk, I’ve just never been a fan of yahoo, I know a lot of people like it better though, and it does have great features and services, and actually when compared to google in most nerd magazines, yahoo actually gets higher rated for email] OMG >.< I just checked out yahoo and freaked cause the bar at the top said “Welcome to your new homepage and favorite sites on something something something” I was about to be really mad if yahoo decided to change my browser settings >.> [and yes children, back in the day websites did that, that was during the time of “Dial Up” where checking your email took about a year, and things like youtube could not exist.  But now a days I think that would be considered hacking, and most browsers do checks to prevent those changes from happening (I could be way way wrong about that though, I do know it was huge issue back in the day because they could mess with more than just your browser back then)]).  !?  Facebook joined with yahoo!?  Lol, I didn’t know that…  Oh btw, Facebook wins vs Myspace, and windows live spaces (which windows live spaces would actually top both if people actually used it).  Some other things to note…

Google voice is win…  lol, Uh, but seriously, google is a thing to keep an eye on, a lot of their stuff has been out forever, and look for their beta stuff, cause it’s pretty amazing to test (other than the fact their ToS is scary as hell if you read it), like it’s kinda scary when you think about google, chrome is like the greatest web browser evah!  They have droid/android for for OS (which I have no idea what providers have but I want one).  They now have google voice (can you imagine if google gets their own service towers and stuff, free mobile phone calls!?  Like, I’d hack my phone the day it comes out to be on google xP [which children is a void of warrantee and possibly against ToS/Contract so don’t do it!]), but like, Googles taking over from my point of view, the only thing they’re really missing is a computer store and OS lol.  That’s it!?  Google can save the US economy (ok maybe not really)!  By having an OS that is free, and providing free services, they can then design phones and computer and have them made in the US so we wouldn’t have to import computers/phones from china and japan and stuff (and you might say “Well my computer was designed in america!”  Well you know what…  Check out that made in china sticker punk, thanks for screwing over our economy (ok not really your fault, but it kinda is)!  X in our GDP stands for Exports – Imports meaning that if Imports is greater than Exports it goes negative lowering our GDP, by companies designing computers in the states, then having it made in china (or some other place), it turns that American company into a non-American company (ok, it’s still american, but technically it’s now an import over an export) so what happens is more money flows out than in.  It’s like common sense ya know, if you spend more than you make you go negative, have the loan sharks chase you down, and get a nice new pair of concrete boots (which I hear are amazingly comfy), now like in capitalism, if a company is on the verge of death, other companies in the same industry are pressured into buying the dying company out and stuff, but then…  it doesn’t work like that for countries lol, I guess that’s a good thing lol, could you imagine instead of china loaning us money they just are like “I’m doing a buyout on your country, I will buy america for some trillion dollars!”  Could we say no?  Would it be an offer we can’t refuse?  Like banks buy each other out all the time when one is in the crapper (or they just point and laugh).  Lol, imagine Britain buying the US “HA!  And you thought you got away with that revolutionary war!”  I think it would be entertaining to see that lol, but then again it would also suck a crap ton cause what happens when you get bought out by someone who enforces crappy rule x.x.  That would be crazy though, like instead of wars people would be like throwing money down on a table auctioning off countries and stuff, start playing texas holdem “I raise you california, and half of texas!”  “I call your state and a half, and raise you the capital of our country!”  “I fold…” lol…  Sorry I’m sugar high =x (btw, if this could happen, that would mean that big companies could technically buy out countries and stuff, and like…  Wow…  Just wow lol…).  Back to the main point!  Google is the biggest threat/gift to the computer world as we know it!  Free phone stuff, free email, free office software, etc (google, this doesn’t mean change you ways, I love it all being free. please don’t change T.T) It just means like, google is moving amazingly fast, and amazingly hidden lol, (it’s like solid snake!).  If everyone thinks that microsoft is the evil empire of computers (which I don’t see how, except for that they put a dent in your wallet, buyout other companies in a capitalist like style and try to be ahead in the game), google would be the underground empire, but then maybe that’s only me thinking that way, specially cause of the sugar high…  Ok…  I think I should stop before I sound more crazy x.x;;…
